Classification of varieties used in lawn mixtures

Purpose of the classification system is to provide the buyer with information about the mixture’s suitability for different purposes. Uniform and clear product information on packaging makes it easier to choose the right product. It is recommended to use the classification system in price lists and offers given to retailers and buyers.

The classification system is based on the green cover ratio from official variety trials by Scanturf and Luke, which describes the most important properties for lawn species: winter hardiness, renewal ability, density, etc.

The association has a special working group under the horticultural section, which decides on the classification system. Placement of varieties to different categories is reviewed annually by the working group.
